Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, Her Excellency Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi has formally deposited the instrument of ratification of the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child with the African Union, reaffirming Somalia’s strong commitment to advancing and safeguarding the rights and welfare of children.
The official handover ceremony took place at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa and was presided over by H.E. Moussa Mohamed Omar, Deputy Head of Office of the Chairperson of the African Union, in the presence of Prof. Hajer Gueldich, Director of Legal Affairs of the African Union.
In her remarks, the Minister underscored that this milestone reflects Somalia’s continued dedication to fulfilling its international and regional obligations, as well as its commitment to strengthening national frameworks that protect and promote the rights and well-being of every Somali child.
The deposit of the instrument of ratification marks a significant step in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to align its legal and institutional frameworks with regional human rights standards, further reinforcing the country’s commitment to child protection, welfare, and development.
