10 June in Mogadishu, the Minister of Family and Human Rights of the Federal Government of Somalia, Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, officially launched the implementation of the Disability Rights and Protection Bill, which was previously approved by the Government Councils.
The launch event was attended by various government agencies, civil society organizations, and Somalia’s international partners.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Minister Khadija highlighted the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to building an inclusive society where all citizens have equal opportunities to participate in the country’s development. She noted that this step symbolizes the ongoing efforts to strengthen the protection of the rights, dignity, and full participation of persons with disabilities.
The Minister encouraged all participants to stand together in supporting persons with disabilities, particularly regarding their participation in political leadership. “Article 7 of this bill guarantees their right to representation at all levels of decision-making, and it is a collective duty for all of us to stand up for the implementation of this act,” stated Minister Khadija.
