The Federal Government of Somalia today presented its national statement before the 52nd Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group in Geneva, outlining the progress Somalia has achieved in advancing and promoting human rights since the previous review cycle.
The session, attended by representatives of 108 Member States, provided an important platform for Somalia to present key reforms, institutional development efforts, and progress in fulfilling its international human rights obligations.
During the review, Somalia received broad recognition from Member States for the significant achievements made within a relatively short period, with 104 countries commending the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen human rights governance and accountability mechanisms.
The review comes at an important moment following Somalia’s recent cooperation agreement with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, which will enhance technical cooperation, strengthen institutional capacity, and support national ownership in the implementation and monitoring of human rights commitments.
The Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to continuing reforms aimed at promoting human dignity, justice, inclusion, and the protection of fundamental rights across Somalia.
