MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Federal Republic of Somalia today held a high-level commemoration marking the 10th anniversary of the nation’s official ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
The event, organized by the Ministry of Family and Human Rights, was presided over by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre. The ceremony was attended by members of the Cabinet, students, educators, civil society representatives, and international partners.
The gathering focused on reviewing the achievements made over the past decade, ensuring child safety, and strengthening collaboration between government agencies and international partners to enhance the welfare and care of Somali children.
In a wide-ranging address, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre underscored the critical role of education in the nation’s existence, stating:

The Prime Minister expressed special gratitude to the Minister of Family and Human Rights, H.E. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, for her tireless advocacy and efforts in defending children’s rights. He further urged all government institutions, civil society, and international organizations to unite their efforts in protecting and advancing the future of the nation’s children.
Finally, the Ministry of Family and Human Rights reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating policies and programs that improve child welfare, prioritizing their fundamental rights to life, education, healthcare, and security.
