Mogadishu, Somalia – The Minister of Family Affairs and Human Rights of the Federal Government of Somalia, Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, held a consultative meeting with various representatives from Somali civil society organizations.
The meeting, which served as both an introduction and a discussion platform, was attended by the State Minister for Family Affairs and Human Rights, Hon. Mohamed Osman Nastaro, the Director General of the Ministry, Mohamed Bashir Omar, and other senior officials from the Ministry.
Representatives from civil society organizations expressed their appreciation for the invitation and the opportunity to engage in discussions with the Ministry. They also welcomed the appointment of Minister Al-Makhzoumi, pledging their full cooperation and support in advancing human rights and social development in Somalia.
In her address, Minister Al-Makhzoumi thanked the civil society representatives for their warm welcome and valuable input. She provided an overview of the Ministry’s priorities, emphasizing the importance of strengthening human rights protections in Somalia and empowering women to take on leadership roles, particularly in the country’s upcoming one-person, one-vote elections.
This consultative meeting is part of a broader engagement strategy by the Minister to connect with different sectors of Somali society. A previous session was held with Somali women leaders to discuss their role in national development and governance.
